People Like Us: Our Story

People who are looking for that unique experience that gives meaning to why we travel. That was the idea behind the creation of PLUS. To provide independent travellers not with just quality accommodation but with awesome personal experiences to match.

The founder of PLUS has spent the better half of his life travelling as both a backpacker and tour guide, experiencing all the highs and lows that come with the pack.

From the crowded airports and delayed trains, to the gentle sunrises, to the wild summer nights in a Mediterranean bar, to meeting hundreds of like minded individuals from across the globe.

The opportunity arrived one day in 2002 to put all this background experience and passion for travel together with some of the most awesome destinations in Italy.

On the eve of his wedding in a small town in Tuscany the family owners of the campsite that he had known well for years asked him to join their team to establish a backpacker brand that would encourage independent travellers to explore their area further, to experience the real Tuscany and not just get stuck in the big cities.

Here was a chance to bring other travellers to the place that had sparked a life long love affair with Italy.

By combining the existing excellent facilities, beautiful locations, welcoming, friendly, helpful local and international staff with an understanding of the needs of the independent traveller/backpacker the PLUS brand was born.

Beginning in Venice with Camping Alba D’Oro the successful PLUS brand development has spread throughout Italy to 13 locations, including Rome with the 2004 opening of Camping Roma, already earning a great reputation amongst travellers as an awesome place to stay.

Over the past few years the PLUS brand has also grown in recognition for consistently high standards, excellent customer service, value for money and quality experiences throughout the backpacker community. This has culminated in the winning of 2 awards at the 2006 Hostel World Hoscars.

PLUS plans to continue providing backpackers and independent travellers with exceptional facilities and services while setting the standards for budget accommodation in Europe.
